The original Handcrafted Hitchcock furniture was produced from 1825 in Hitchcocksville, Conn. The company has some financial issues and went out of business, the founder, Lambert Hitchcock died in 1852. Since then “Hitchcock” became a generic term for many forms of stenciled furniture. The company name was revived again from 1946 to spring of 2006, producing not just chairs, but also mirrors, washstands and cabinetry. Your chairs are not 19th Century originals, but reproductions made after the company name was revived. Currently values for these chairs are quite modest after a run up in value during the late 1980's. Most today sell at auction for under. $75.00 each.
