Ceramic pair of dogs

By Marcia, 30 June, 2008
Description

The pair, as you can see by the pictures have a couple of chips of painting missing around the mouth.  The sand texture also had a slight discoloration in a couple of places.  There are absolutely no ceramic chips anywhere.  The biggest problem, I imagine, is that there are no markings that show who made them.

At around 1900 or before they were a gift to my Danish Grandmother from an English friend of the family Sailor. I don't know how old they are but I assume they were new at that time. I also assume they were English but I really don't know.

Re: Ceramic pair of dogs

On this one you don't need markings , these are english staffordshire pieces , they were made in the 1800's representing the spaniels of king charles ,  nice set and condtion is not bad ,  these were so popular that thousands were made and none were marked , maybe a few but not the majority ,  so missing the marks has no affect on the value.

As a pair the lowest would be 200 dollars but they could well fetch 300 to 400 at auction, their have been some repos but a collector can tell the difference ,  yours are not repos.  Be sure to include your story if you take them to auction

Hope this helps , if I can do anything for you , email [email protected]  I will be more than glad to help
