I believe this is a Japanese Bento (Picnic) Box

By sewandsell, 12 June, 2008
Description

I would love to sell this stacking unit but I have no idea of it's actual origin or value. I believe it to be Japanese but I have searched our public library, Google & Ebay ads and have never found one like it. The only thing I found remotely close that was called a Japanese Bento box was 7 years ago & the 3 letters were different. It also did not have the ginseng motif or mother-of-pearl but was priced at over a $1,200.00. I hope someone can help me with this. It was filled with vintage laces, sewing supplies & old buttons when I received it. The bottom drawer is the only one with a small split in it. My husband believes it is carved because you cannot see or feel any joints.

Thank you!
