I have no idea how to value this, seems like a piece for a maritime museum. There’s lot online about the ship including some short YouTube videos and even a song by Gordon Lightfoot https://gordonlightfoot.com/BalladofYarmouthCastle.shtml I also found what I believe to be the same bell on worthpoint, I’m assuming this is the one you bought https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/antique-historical-ships-bell-ss…

Re: The bell from SS Evangeline / SS Yarmouth Castle

I don’t. I was thinking that since the ship changed names it may not have been the bell on the SS Yarmouth Castle. I don’t know if it would have been removed from the SS Evangeline when name changed. That would be worth knowing. Being built in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later having sunk in Miami, Florida makes me think those would be the places where there might be interest, museums or nautical themed shops.

Re: The bell from SS Evangeline / SS Yarmouth Castle

No. I read on Wikipedia that ships never change their original name on their bells. This is a maritime tradition.

Re: The bell from SS Evangeline / SS Yarmouth Castle

"If a ship's name is changed, maritime tradition is that the original bell carrying the original name will remain with the vessel. A ship's bell is a prized possession when a ship is broken up[3] and often provides the only positive means of identification in the case of a shipwreck." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship%27s_bell

These are some bells that sold on liveauctioneers. This one sold for $150 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/59674634_antique-1931-nautical-bel…
This one sold for $110 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/21207048_solid-brass-nautical-bell
This one sold for $450 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/65668599_us-navy-bronze-ships-bell
This one sold for $180 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/84493270_antique-bronze-1841-nauti…
This one sold for $175 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/48695062_heavy-cast-bronze-nautica…
And this one sold for $225 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/81731379_italian-bronze-nautical-m…
I’m not an expert (just googled info). I do think the history of the ships tragic ending is important info that might help you find a buyer. Nautical groups on Facebook, nautical related posts on Instagram might be online sources to get it seen.

Re: The bell from SS Evangeline / SS Yarmouth Castle

I’d just be guessing. If you do a search for nautical antique dealers (not that yours is an antique) you’ll find quite a lot of them and most have contact info.
