Loveseat Sofa 1920s Victorian Antique Birdseye Maple

Profile picture for user Lovejoy
By Lovejoy, 11 March, 2018
Accurate Description of Item
Late American Empire Sofa
Appraiser Remarks
Based on what I can see in the images provided, this piece is actually an American Empire piece dating about 1840 and is made using mahogany and mahogany veneers. There were reproductions made in this style during the early years of the 20th Century referred to as "Empire Revival", but most where not as elaborate as this one and the carving was often more machine made and crude. The style is not currently in vogue, last peaking in value during the 1980's. Currently at auction comparable pieces in need of some repair often sell for under $350.00, if you have an offer of $1200.00 for it I would suggest taking them up on it.
Estimated Value
$300.00- $500.00
