Re: Wm Jacot pocketwatch

Greetings -

I had my local jeweler look at it and while he didn't do a complete appraisal he said a fair market value would be around $2500. I would be looking to get right around $2,000.

Re: Wm Jacot pocketwatch

I see you already had it appraised by a jeweler, but I'll go ahead and add a little in case they didn't go everything with you. 'Warranted' means that the watch is gold plated or gold filled, and the company provided a sort of warranty garunteeing that they would re-plate or re-fill the watch should the gold wear-off within the warranty period. 18 karat means that the purity of the gold covering is a minimum of 75% gold.

I'm not certain what the stone chips are, and I'd be surprised if your jeweler didn't test them for you. Dual diamond testers are inexpensive (at around $50) and easy to use so there's really no excuse not to have and use them. If they ARE diamonds, they're probably mine-cut, or rose-cut.

Just for the record:

The watch was tested and it IS 18K gold, NOT filled or plated. The stones were tested and they ARE rose-cut diamonds.

Re: Wm Jacot pocketwatch

Ah, pardon, my main experience is with 'plate' Warranted. Apparently Warranted was a generic term used for any sort of guarantee, including gold content. Which seems redundant to put on solid gold with the proper karatage mark, since hallmarks are legal guarantees in their own right.
