Your chest was not made in 1899, Lane didn't begin production of cedar chests until 1912 and did not operate as The Lane Co. until 1922. If you could post an image of the whole chest I could tell you what you actaully have.

I am not sure how to post a picture. I have them listed on craigslist in phoenix under antiques....
