Cupid Awake Cupid Asleep

By RondaLee, 13 June, 2009
Description

Any dark spots are shadows, and not actually on the pictures. Both frames haves missing varnish, flaked off showing a lighter color wood, but only on the bottom part of the frame. Wood on the back of both frames, very bad. Matting on one has water stain, but neither picture shows any damage. Both were found after an elderly relative died in 1989. They were in a box with original Ellis Island Papers for my family dated 1876. Eveything in this box that had a date was 1903 or earlier. There are many nails in the frame, and I am afraid to remove them, as the wood is in poor condition. There were several notes, like packing slips when my Great Grandmother moved in 1908, the notes are dated sept 14th 1908. It states that Cupid Awake is from the downstairs foyer, and Cupid asleep is from the upstairs bedroom hall. This is where I currently display them in my home. Not sure if that means anything, but if it's how she wanted them, I am willing to do so. Not looking to sell, but curious if they have any value.

Re: Cupid Awake Cupid Asleep

These prints were originally sold in cheap Five & Dime store frames, frames like yours date from right around World War One and into the early 1920's.
As for value, these prints have discussed in great detail here:
