Description
This dresser is in the Eastlake style with handpainted floral decoration of each of the three front drawers. It has the circular dowel pin construction instead of dovetailing in the drawers. It has metal castor wheels. This is pretty much all I know about it. Someone had suggested to me that it may be a 1920's piece done in the Eastlake style but I think it may be older. Please help me date this piece and also what type of wood was used in this dresser, as I don't have a clue.

Yes this is an eastlake piece circa 1875. The "scallop and pin" drawer joint is what's called a "Knapp Joint" which was first used circa 1871. The machine used to make it worked great when it was working, but was difficult to maintain compared to standard dove cutting machines, and wasn't used much by the late 1880's.
Demand for cottage furniture is now in decline, as is the demand for great deal of Victorian furniture. At auction similar pieces now sell for less than $200.00 .
