Lane Cedar Chest

By tidge, 31 March, 2008
Description

style # 610110 E ; serial # 652110

Some surface scratches in the finish and the hardware is slightly pitted but the chest is still functioning very well (and smells terrific!) just some cosmetic problems that I wonder if it is worth restoring or has it lost its value? The hardware is removed , but I still have it.

This is my first time owning a cedar chest and am uncertain how to care for it. I am contemplating painting it if it does not affect the value.

Lane cedar chest

Lane has been making cedar chests since before World War One, and while their is some market for the older examples from the 20's-30's values for these later examples is flat at the current time, and they sell for what you paid for yours in the $25.00- $50.00 range.

Re: Lane Cedar Chest

I found a Lane Cedar Chest recently in a friends barn. He had several other peices just sitting there waisting away. It was depressing. I offered to buy the cedar chest off him for $250. It is in prestine condition though he does not have the skeleton key for the lock. It is not a push button lock and has the original papers still inside the chest. Thought you might have an avenue of where to go for a value.

Re: Lane Cedar Chest

Not much to add to my above comments, most of the older 20's to 30's examples sell for $200.00 + if in good condition, but I wouldn't pay more than $250.00 for the best of them in the current market.
