Set of Grand Ledge Chair Company chairs, one captain's chair, four side chairs

By kaylimoss, 21 February, 2008
Description

I say they are in excellent condition because the structural portion of the chair is in fantastic condition with no knicks. I believe the wood is cherry. The upholstery is shot and needs to be replaced. The unupholstered seat is in great shape. Flat head screws hold the seat to the chair itself. The captain's chair is marked with no. 273, the side chairs are marked with 272. Paper tags are attached to the bottom of each chair, but are difficult to read except for the Grand Ledge Chair Company title.

Grand Ledge Chair Company

Your chairs are what's referred to as "Shield Backs", based on 18th Century American Federal examples , but made in the mid 20th Century.Values for them depend on their quality of contruction and wood type . Yours are mass produced examples which sell at auction for about $50.00-$75.00 each .

273 Captain's Chair

I purchased the same set 15 years ago and was told then that it was about 75 years old, which would make it 90 years old now. I paid $600 for 6 chairs and table. However, one of my captain's chairs has broken and am looking for a replacement. Are you selling?
