Re: Antique Hanging oil lamp

Most of these date from the late 19th century for use with parlor lamps, generally they had shades as well. Currently oil lamps are not in great demand, they last peaked in value before 2000. this one might go at auction for $150.00

Re: Antique Hanging oil lamp

Noticed that frame is non-magnetic and base is metal, traditional do you know what they were made of, and did they paint them, like mine seems to be copper patina? Chris

Re: Parlor Hanging oil lamp

They used a lot of tin, brass, cast iron and "Pot metal" in these lamps. In most cases the metal was electroplated or painted to resemble brass, bronze or gold. The bases tended to be pot metals or cast iron for the weight and balance the lamp.
