18th Century Louis XV Hand Painted Side Table

By livebig, 15 December, 2014
Description

I inherited this piece from my grandmother, which i believe to be an 18th Century Louis XV Hand Painted Side Table. It's absolutely stunning and was in pristine condition until a few years ago, when a family member who was babysitting it for me damaged the paint on the top a little bit and made a few nicks in the legs. While she was still living, my grandmother had the table appraised but unfortunately those records were lost. I do have a sense of what she said it was worth at that time but I wonder how significantly slight damage can reduce the value of the piece. Additionally, what do you suggest is the best way to get the piece appraised? Unfortunately, the table is currently wrapped and in storage so I was unable to get another photo at this time. You can see part of it in the background of this photo. I will be traveling for the next month but when I return, I can get more photos. Additionally, I wonder if it would be worth getting retouched before selling. Any advice? I appreciate your guidance immensely!
