GERMAN WAX RELIEF

ROMANTIC SCENE

CIRCA 1930

(DIMENSIONS: APPROX.  12" by 10"

The history of German wax relief sculptures

dates back centuries and has been a medium used to

present a three dimensional story in an era long

before film, pictures or other mediums were developed!

In the early twentieth century German wax relief

art had a revival! The post WWI period brought

a desire for romantic and charming works that

people could look at and feel their heart smile!

This wonderful piece dates to this period and

has a most charming romantic scene! A young

gentleman has brought flowers for an unsuspecting

lady and the locals peering through the windows

and in the square are witnesses to this unfolding

romance!

A young girl looks out the window! Is that her

older sister being wooed? A neighbor?

The expression on the man's face as he looks

into the object of his affection's eyes is telling!

Clearly this is the first time he's had the courage

to express how he feels and wants to see

how she will respond!

Samick 5 String Banjo

Category
Music and Music Instruments
Condition
Good
Description

Samick 5 string banjo.

I haven’t cleaned it. So it’s dusty and smudged with finger prints and such but otherwise good condition.

I know NOTHING about instruments.

Emblem on resonator. Eagle with 3 stars over the top. Eagle is holding arrows & flags.

That’s all I know. It was a garage sale find.

French Armoire Three Door with Mirror

Category
European Furniture
Condition
Mint
Description

This armoire is a large piece but solid.   It is more modern I believe as it uses bolts to tighten once the pieces are interlocked during assembly.  It can be taken apart into several pieces.  It has been used for linens and blankets.   May also be used for hanging clothes.  Three shelves are included.  It needs a good home as it is collecting dust in the garage.  It was purchased in Paris France in 1998 for use in the home where we had taller ceilings.

French Buffet à deux corps

Category
European Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

This buffet à deux corps comes apart in two pieces: upper and lower thus the French name given.   The glass is lead glass.   It has two drawers.   Dishes as seen may be presented on the back of the middle section on the runner.   I believe the wood is oak.  The support on the bottom left has become detached but not being a furniture guy at all I haven't put it back (not sure how).   This piece was awesome in a home with 8 foot ceilings.  Unfortunately it is collecting dust in the garage at this time as present home ceilings are too low.   This piece was purchased in 1999 in Paris France when in residence there.
