Vintage ivory and wood black elephants

Profile picture for user Lovejoy
By Lovejoy, 27 April, 2018
Accurate Description of Item
One pair of Ebony Elephants with Bone or Ivory tusks
Appraiser Remarks
Based on your images this pair of elephants are most likely carved out of ebony, a very dark and heavy wood with very little grain. The tusks could be ivory, but they could also be bone or any variety of synthetic ivory resin.
Figures like this were made all over Asia and Africa for the tourist trade. These look like examples from India, they were made in huge numbers, so values are modest, most comparable pairs sell for under $60.00 at auction.
Estimated Value
$40.00- $80.00
