Small Chinese Plate

Profile picture for user Lovejoy
By Lovejoy, 10 January, 2017
Accurate Description of Item
One Chinese Blue & White Qing Dynasty High Foot Dish
Appraiser Remarks
Not all Chinese pottery and porcelain is marked, and even when it is the markings do not always truthfully indicate the true age of the piece. Based on the images though, what you have appears to be a Late Ming to early Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1912) "High Foot" plate, which would have been used to serve various food dishes. This one looks like examples recovered from Chinese ship wrecks discovered in the South China Sea since the 1980's. Some of these wrecks contained huge quantities of porcelain, upwards of a quarter of a million pieces, which has affected the market demand for it. Because of these recent discoveries of porcelain laden wrecks, pieces like this are not deemed all that rare in the current market.
Estimated Value
$275.00- $400.00
