Japanese silver Jewelry Box 1918-39

By wit4him, 20 March, 2015
Description

I would like to know if anyone has come across a jewelry box like this with hand fans on it. I have not and I have looked everywhere. I have been told this piece is from early 1900's and I have also been told to check post wwII. So if anyone has some info , please let me know. It is 80-85% silver with gold leafing hand fans emprinted on it.

Re: Japanese silver Jewelry Box 1920-40

The decoration techique is is called Damascene, most examples of it date between World Wars One and Two (1918-1939) I have seen examples similar to this go at auction for over $400.00

Re: Japanese silver Jewelry Box 1920-40

Thank you for the information. I was told by an antique that this Jewelry Box is 80-85% silver with gold leafing so it should be worth more than $400. The antique dealer also said there was value in the jewelry box itself because of the age and unique design.
