Description
Hi everyone,
Just wondering anyone can shed some light on what this thing might be?
It's tin/copper/aluminium, with a lovely ornate "US" logo on the outside of it, and "Made in Italy" on the neck.
It's got a shutoff valve inside the neck, so I was thinking it might either have been some kind of overflow valve for gas or steam.
Or something off a car maybe?
It's also got a little clip on the side of it, to hang it off something perhaps?
Very confusing item!
Hope you can help, much appreciated!
Re: Tin gas lighter storage thing
It's a 20th century reproduction of a U. S. Model 1855 "Peace" flask was issued for use with rifled muskets. Flasks like this originally were used to hold and pour gunpowder for muzzle loaded rifles. The reproductions are used by Civil War enthusiasts who re-inact famous battles . Most like this sell for about $40.00 new, half that at auction.
