European daybed

By Buymyguystuff, 12 October, 2013
Description

This solid oak daybed was in our basement for 20 yrs. I have no info about it whatsoever. I just recently had it restored. The wood refinished, the stuffing replaced, the springs retied and the canvas was replaced with marine grade Naugahyde . It had been covered in painted canvas, and was stuffed with a moss type stuffing. It originally had more buttons (tufting), but I had less because of the expense. The old polish upholsterer and the refinished both believed it to be late century European. I would like an accurate description as much, or moreso, than the value of it. Thank you for any assistance you can offer me.

Re: European daybed

It's in the Empire Revival style and is more likely of North American origin. The style was meant to resemble the original Empire style made 1815-40, most like this tend to date from the turn of the 19th century. The style is not very popular these days with pieces like this often going at auction for less than $350.00.
