Famous Artist Print

By Patrick.Stover, 17 October, 2012
Description

Was given to me through family, was appraised years ago at $8,000 and would like to know what it is worth now. The artist is known for doing alphabet pieces and his signature is down at the bottom of the print but i cannot make it out. Piece of paper on the back reads 68/350 Lithio Print, dont know if that is of importance.

Re: Famous Artist Print

The artist is Erte (Romain De Tirtoff). Sorry but either the market has absolutely tanked regarding the value of this piece since it was last appraised or the original appraisal was reflective of a highly inflated insurance value based on gallery prices and in no way associated with actual market value (what someone will pay). This is the only identical work that has actually sold in the past two years. It was estimated at $600-800 and sold for $750. There are three or four identical works from the series also currently listed (and have been for a very long time) on ebay. The asking prices range from $1150-2500, again for identical pieces from the same edition, and no one has even made an offer on the lowest priced one. Market value, if you want to sell the piece, IMO is $750-1000. The work is also a serigraph, not a lithograph, for future refrence.
