Re: oil painting of the ocean crashing on the rocks

Hi there,

I also have a painting similar to both of yours, signed V. Berk.

What I have found out is that he is a German artist, who sometimes signed G.(?) V. Berk.

If you do a Google search for 'oil canvas V. Berk' I think you'll see another painting of his on sale for $1,200.

I got mine at a thrift shop for $40!

Good luck.

Sorry, I mistyped the message below.

He is also listed under F. V. Berk.

Hope this helps.

Re: oil painting of the ocean crashing on the rocks

These seascapes tend to be generic "Starving Artist" pieces sold at hotel conference centers and " Art on the Fence" traveling art shows. Generally the artists paint these pieces in multiples of the same scene for sale to Art wholesalers. In most cases values for them in the secondary market tend to be rather modest unless the Artist developed a following of collectors.
