By hrlygirl1967, 27 April, 2009
Description

I have this M. Hohner 16 hole Chromonika III that I was wondering if anyone new anything about. I find no information online except for the I and II's. Have original box. My understanding is this was made in Germany. On one side it says Chromatische Mundharmonika Chromonika III M. Hohner. The other side has Trade Mark with symbols with dates of 1927 and 1933.Any information would be helpful.

Re: M. Hohner Chromonika III

I have a Chromoika III  I bought inGermany in 1955. I was in the Navy and in Hamburg, Germany and bough it there for about $25 US as I remember.

My box is different from the one pictured for yours. Mine is kinda wood burl painted on, and box is taller in back than front, with rounded edges. It has yellowish felt liner with Reddish 'Hohner' printed in center of top.

The harmonica is identical it appears to mine. Mine is marked 'c' on shifter side below the side cover mounting screw. '

The box has a sliding bar latch centered on lower edge.

I like you, have been wondering how much it is woth. It is in excellent condition, but has some minor scratches and a dent centered at the numbers 9 thru 11 that could be worked out by hand I supose. I'd guess the kids did it at some time playing with it, don't know for sure. I never learned to play it. Tired but I'm an engineer, not a musicion.

If you hear of a price, let me know.

Re: M. Hohner Chromonika III

This was made for "German-speaking countries" as shown by the German spelling (Chromonika instead of Chromonica). The photos are not very clear....however, if the circle between the hands has a 6-pointed star in it, this means it was made sometime before 1938. Unfortunately they are not valuable.....many of these appear regularly on e-bay, usually quite cheap, although a collector might be interested if they don't already have one with the German spelling.
