Black Knight Hohenberg Coffee/Tea Set

By bob11, 16 January, 2008
Description

This coffee/tea set appears to be silver plated china/porcelain. It consists of a coffee server with lid (damaged), a tea server with lid, a creamer, a sugar bowl with lid, 5 cups and 6 saucers (1 cup missing). The markings on the bottom of each piece (see attached image) show a mounted black knight above the words "BLACK KNIGHT Hohenberg Studios Bavaria". The marking inside each lid (see attached image) show a handled 'pot' shape with a star topped crown on top of it. The inside of the 'pot' shape is divided into three boxes which contain letters. The top left box contains the letter "C". The top right box contains the letter "M". The bottom box contains the letters "HR". To the left of the 'pot' shape is the number "1814". To the right of the 'pot' shape is the number "1914". Under these markings are the words "Hutschenreuther Hohenberg Bavaria".

The lid to the coffee server has been broken and repaired and the coffee server has several chips and cracks.

Your set is what's called "Silver Luster", the company that made it was established in 1814 and is still working. The company makes fine quality porcelain dinnerwares and figurines. The mark has changed through the years, your "Black Knight" mark dates from 1920-1940, the Hutchenruether 1814-1914 mark was used until late 1933. Value- $200.00 Lovejoy
