Tie Tac

By MBeverly, 25 February, 2020
Description

This is a tie tac that has been in my family for seveeral years.  I recently re discovered it.3/4 inch long and 3/8 inch wide.  The design is hard to see.  There is a helment like old armor at the top.  Then insidde the shield is a scale on the right.  Opposie that some kind of fruit, an apple perhaps.  The shield is divided into thirds.  The scales is 1/3, the fruit another third.  The bottom thirs is impossible to tell.  Around the bottom of the shield is writiing. I cannot read it. Neither of my pictures is very good, but it is the best I have been able to do. Can anyone help tell me what the tie tac represents?  Thank you.

Re: Tie Tac

Hello!

Hope I can offer some help with the heraldry. I believe what you are referring to as a "fruit" is rather a fleshpot (an iron kettle) - or a leather pouch/purse, the scales are scales, and the symbol at the bottom looks like a "Drakkar" (viking ship)

The pin looks like it's made from a crude mold, but it's hard to tell from your photos.

Can you figure out what the symbol in the "sun" at the top is, or what is written on the bottom?

PS: It would also help to know where you are, or where your family is from.
