Oriental Ivory Figurines

Profile picture for user pinkytips
By pinkytips, 27 July, 2012
Description

I was given these four figurines as a gift from a former boss. She traveled to the Olympics when they were held in Japan. I was told they were only for sale during that time. They range from about 1 1/2" to 2 1/2". They are made of ivory and depict Japanese characters, They are in excellent condition and I would like to sell them but first need an appraisal of their value.

Re: Oriental Ivory Figurines

I was given them as a gift in the mid 80's and they were from the Olympics, so whenever that was, I don't keep up with dates on things like that. All I know is what I have stated to be true.

Re: Oriental Ivory Figurines

Probably the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. First thing you can do is make sure they are real ivory. Take a needle and heat it with fire till its really hot, stick it in the bottom of the item. If it melts the item then its some  sort of resin or plastic. If not then it is bone or ivory. Also, selling ivory and/or importing it has some laws attached. Not sure if its legal to sell it here. :)
