Buffet - antique, heavily carved

By [email protected], 3 September, 2020
Description

Looking for a possible era/age. Gothic revival would put it around 1850+- a decade, but not sure if it qualifies. The interior adjustable shelving looks to be hand carved slots where you just move the end block to where you want (personally have never seen that type of shelving). There are holes and light spots on the very top indicating a missing top piece as well. Also seems to be missing two more pillars between the bottom part and top (square top and hole where the pillar capital would have fit is still visible). Got it from a caterer with a large event space, absolutely stuffed with fantastic antiques, and he said he got it from an estate sale in MN.

Re: Buffet - antique, heavily carved

Most of these are actually late Victorian examples, the majority made in Belgium, similar pieces without excessive figural carvings were made in England from about1840 through the 1990's as Gothic and Elizabethan/Jacobean Revival.
