Black lacquer folding table

By melissa246, 6 June, 2009
Description

Folding round black lacquer table with scalloped edges. It is inlaid with mother-of-pearl or abalone shell. The scene is of what I think is a Samurai on horseback at a river. Two swans float on the river, and a pagoda is seen in the distance. There are several gouges on the edges. The lacquer is no longer shiny on the top. On the underside there are two sliding wooden bars that I thought were to lock the folding legs in place. But they really don't seem to serve any function.
