Antique wooden carved chair

I got this chair when I was out "treasure hunting" with my daughter. I saw it and just had to have it. I think it may be African?? There are no markings on it and it looks like it's all one piece. The wood is unlike anything I've seen here in Alaska and I am by no means an antique expert. I just like collecting weird things. Any info or story about the chair would be greatly appreciated. I just love it!!!

The only thing I was told was a woman's mother had it in a locker. The woman says she remembered it from when she was a teenager. I believe the woman was 50 years old. Other than that, she says she had no other info on how her mother obtained it.
