Antique dining set Wait Furniture co. has tags still attached!! (1830-1910??) maybe

By primmamaof10, 16 June, 2009
Description

I dont have full pics of it, sorry, but it's a dining table, six chairs, buffet, and china cabinet (all matching). It has a tag nailed to the bottom that has" The Wait Furniture Co. Portsmouth Oh" on it and hand written on the tag, it says lewis furniture Huntington W. Va.. It also has stamped in the wood on the bottom I*V under that there is what looks like an upside down L followed by 1328 . The dove tailing in it is large, but it does have screws too. As far as I know it's never been refinished, the finish on it is crackled, it looks like mohogany possibly, or some other dark wood. The buffet has some damage to the doors from the temperature change (i assume) when I brought it out of the basement. I still have the chip that split off. Under where the chip broke off the wood is considerably lighter, but it doesn't seen to be veneered, maybe stained? It has little rosette things at the corners of the doors and drawers and a carved in dipped frame around the edges, this appears to be hand done (one area isn't quite straight and some of the corners aren't quite uniform) There are things that look like a plaque mount on the back area of the server and on the sides of the table, but the finish is uniform there so I guess it's just decoration. The big chair with the arms, has lost the arms, I have one of them, and one of the other chairs has the cross bar under neath loose ( its attached with a dowel) I am not interested in selling it but need to know what its worth for insurance purposes.
