Deckchair from SS NEW AMSTERDAM

Category
Furniture
Condition
Excellent
Description

===============================================================
Antique Deckchair:

This is an original deckchair from the passenger liner S.S. NEW AMSTERDAM of
the Holland-America line (now owned by Carnival Corporation ). I inherited this
chair from my parents when they passed away several years ago.

From the best I could learn, the S.S. NEW AMSTERDAM was in service from the
late 1890's through the mid 1940's, or perhaps 1950's. It was the first of 3 ships
of the Holland-American Line to bear the AMSTERDAM name.

The second ship was the S.S. NIEUW AMSTERDAM (1937 to 1971, scrapped in
1974).

The third ship bearing the AMSTERDAM name is the M.S. AMSTERDAM which is
currently in service.

This deckchair is a lounge style, and is 55 inches from the rear feet to the front
of the foot rest. The distance between the feet of the chair itself, without the
leg-rest extended is 36 inches.
The heigth of the chair back from the floor is 37 inches.
The height of the chair back from the seat is 29 inches.
The width of the chair, at the arm rests, is 22 inches.
The length of the chair seat is 24 inches.
The length of the leg-rest extension is 20 inches.
The height of the leg-rest above the floor is 12 inches.
All hardware is made of brass.
There are brass hinges at the arm joints and at the leg-rest attachment to the seat.
On the rear of the seat back, at the top, is a brass plate inscribed:
S.S. NEW AMSTERDAM
On the front edge of the seat is a brass plate inscribed:
1ST CLASS ONLY
