LITHOGRAPH OF SKETCH BY WILLIAM M. MERRICK 1866

Category
Paintings
Condition
Excellent
Description

We purchased a group of Margaret Whittemore prints and this was among them.  Wondered if the lithograph was done by her.  The original sketch was done by William M. Merrick and published in Harper's Weekly in 1866.  Under the picture it is written in pencil Commercial Street, Atchinson, Kans.  That is the way Whittemore prints are marked but this is not signed and the other prints are.  I looked up Merrick and found that he lived in the Atchinson area in 1866 and had 4 sketches published in Harper's Weekly during this time.  Other than that I couldn't find out much more about him.

This piece was painted green when my dad purchased at an auction. My mom and dad stripped the green and stained it. I painted it and distressed it. I have the other drawer pull but have lost one of the two screws.
