White Onyx Goblet

By yulianel, 24 May, 2025
Description

This is a white onyx wine goblet.

I suspect it is made of what is called white onyx/onyx marble/calcite onyx, likely from Pakistan.

Probably vintage, from 1970s-2000s.

Heavy, 474 gr. There is a very small chip on the edge, see pic.

The bottom is 2.75'' in diameter, the upper part is 2.3''. 7.6'' tall.

Holds liquids, no cracks or other issues.

I found one similar shape goblet on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/126596122919

Not sure if they priced it correctly.

Vintage White Onyx Wine Goblet

Item Description:
This is a handcrafted goblet carved from white onyx, also known as onyx marble or calcite onyx. Onyx of this type is commonly sourced from Pakistan and used in decorative items and tableware. The goblet has a smooth, polished surface and displays the characteristic creamy translucency and veining typical of white onyx. It weighs approximately 474 grams and stands 7.6 inches tall with a 2.75-inch base and a 2.3-inch rim. The goblet holds liquids and is structurally intact aside from a small chip on the rim.

Estimated Age:
Circa 1970s–2000s, based on design and typical import periods of such stoneware into North America and Europe.

Condition:

  • Overall: Good vintage condition
  • Notable Issues: One small chip on the rim; no cracks or repairs
  • Finish: Still retains luster; cleanly carved

Market History & Comparison:
These goblets are typically imported in sets but are also found individually. Current asking prices for comparable goblets (often from Pakistan) on platforms like eBay range from $15–$40 USD per piece, depending on condition and exact style. The goblet you referenced (eBay item #126596122919) is currently listed at $64.98 USD, which appears to be above market average unless part of a matched or rare set.

Current Market Value (Retail):
$20–$30 USD (single goblet, due to good condition and material)
$10–$15 USD (wholesale or reseller rate)

Recommendations:

  • Selling Tip: Emphasize the material (white onyx/calcite marble), hand-carved nature, and condition. Include weight and measurements, and mention it holds liquids—some buyers use these for ritual or decorative use.
  • Professional Appraisal: Not necessary unless you acquire a full set or find provenance indicating artistic or cultural significance.
