Re: Vintage Childrens Pedal Horse

I have one almost exactly the same - the only difference is the seat style, which on mine is a semi-circle that is bolted to the frame directly above the back wheels.

I've tried to find others through ebay etc. to get a current estimate price but like you I have had no luck finding one. The only thing I can offer is that I saw a very similar in an antiques shop in Auckalnd, New Zealand about 10 years ago that was priced at close to NZ$2,,000 (approx. US $1,400). Unfortunately I have a feeling it was grossly overpriced (like other items in the same shop), but who knows?

Re: Vintage Childrens Pedal Horse

My husband and I found a cart nearly identical to this one in an antique shop in East Texas for $500 firm.  The dealer wasn't sure of any details, but said she thought it was from Italy and circa 1880s to turn of the century.  My husband looked at the construction and was positive it couldn't have been made prior to the 30s or 40s, so we did a little more extensive research and sent pictures to a pedal car restoration expert out of state at Portell Car Restorations and Last Chance Garage (http://www.pedalcarsandparts.com).  Here is their reply:

"The toy was made by Tri-ang. It was called the Tri-ang trotting machine. Made around 1953. Tri-ang was in England. The toy is worth $200.00 to $250.00."

I hope this helps anyone who may come across another.  It's a very neat piece.

Re: Vintage Childrens Pedal Horse

This trotting horse is what I grew up riding as a child.....I was five ( born 1956 ) and have photos of myself riding it...it was my daily joy to be riding this trotting horse.  The original main and tail was white rubber. The tail pushed into the hole on the rump area, the mane slid downwards after slipping it into the groove between the ears.

Aged 57 now I still have my trotting horse but sadly without the main and tail and desperately in need of restoration.

This horse features in the TRIANG catalogue of 1950  http://www.triang.nl/catalogue.htm

I believe it was called pegasus in the catalogue.

A more realistic value on it would be arounf $500-700 based on the occasional one I have seen being sold by private owners .....I have photographs if anyones wants to see them

Kind regards

Re: Vintage Childrens Pedal Horse

My mother bought me a horse that matches all these descriptions at a gargage sale when I was 4.  I never knew the history.  A couple of years ago when refinishing my basement I had to put it in a storage unit.  It was stolen.  I had started to restore it and was in the early stages.  The horse was painted all white and the cart all red.  If anyone has an information of it where abouts, I would pay to get this back.   I don't know if this is an appropriate place to post this message but I am trying everything I can.  I am heartbroken over this loss and still can't tell my mother.
