Unkown Oil Painting

By ginowot, 25 March, 2009
Description

I never thought to ask any questions about the painting when my folks were still living. Unfortunatly I am a only child and really have no living family older that I can ask any questions. I have wondered if it is possibly the work of Sarah L. Clark (1869-1936). From what little I can find about her, it seems to be the kind of painting she may have painted, but I have never been able to find an example of how she signed her work from any known works of her's. By looking at the back side of the painting it is apparent that the canvas frame and the actual picture frame are made of the same hard wood. What kind, I can't be sure. So, I am assuming that the current frame that it is in, is more than likely the original frame it was first mounted in upon completion of this oil painting. There are hair line cracks in the oil paint, mostly in the upper half of the painting and primarly in the clouds shown on the painting. The lower half of the painting seems to be almost crack free. The frame appears that it may have even been hand carved, since it not as perfect as something made by machine would be, but is so close you don't notice unless you really study it.
