Small Chinese Plate

Description

This is a small 1.75" tall by 3.25" diameter plate.  It appears to be old.  There are no "reign marks" on the piece that I can detect.  There is kiln grit adheared to the bottom and there are imperfections.  I would like to know the period or age of this piece.  Also what was it used for.
