I bought this at a resale shop. I noticed the iron base, which pre-dates it. I think it was a globe before turned into art. There are a couple of signatures, but I could not make them out.

Paint decorated desk globe
I think someone painted an existing desk globe in the style of Fornacetti (Piero Fornasetti, Italian, b. 1913 d. 1988). Decorator value $100 at retail. It's cool looking!
