Oriental Figure of a Rhino

By vicki runton, 3 October, 2009
Description

This figure is obviously a Rhino...all be it a kinda jazzy one...Its is approx 5 inch in length and 2 1/2 -3 inches in height. It is quite heavy for it's size which leads me to think it's pottery rather than porcelain. The rhino stands on a green base simulating grass I suppose. The body of the Rhino is decorated in a leaf and flower pattern with some more ornate decoration on it's back. The colours are red 'famille' type, blue and white enamels. There is evidence of guilding to one of the rhino horns and the ornate decoration on the figures back. there are for character marks to the base also in red( i do not read chinese or japananese characters). I'm mystified by my little rhino and wish to know more about him,,,,can you help me???
