Old Silver or Plate Oval Casserole with Edge Cover stamped PatDFEB 9 1869 II

By drusie, 9 May, 2013
Description

I was given this dish about 15 years ago. It was heavily tarnished - this is it's first cleaning. It's some kind of casserole dish, maybe for pot pies as the fitted edging would hold a crust in place. It has handles. It's obviously been well used in someone's kitchen. I don't know if it's silver or silver plate, but it weighs about 2 to 3 lbs. It's 14 1/2 inches long, 9 inches across and 2 1/4 inches deep. There is an oval logo above the date, but it's practically gone. However, there are four letters distinguishable on the lower right side - FANY. Also, the "D" that is stamped with the date is a small capital D which is underlined. I'd like to know what this dish was used for and whether it is silver or silver plate, and the manufacturer if possible.

Thank you.
