Oil Painting Appraisal…

Oil Painting Appraisal

Overview:

This painting is an oil-on-canvas artwork attributed to "Bonito," as indicated on the attached certificate of authenticity issued by the Collier Art Corporation. The painting's title is listed as "Apres Midi L'Ete", which translates to "Summer Afternoon." The scene portrays a lively outdoor gathering, featuring trees and figures in a park-like setting. It is housed in a vintage wooden frame with decorative details, which adds to its aesthetic appeal.

History:

The attached certificate suggests this piece was created as part of a collection distributed or authenticated by Collier Art Corporation, a company known for distributing decorative art. While "Bonito" appears to be the artist's name, further research would be needed to verify their history or significance in the art world.

This painting appears to have been handed down through generations, indicating its personal sentimental value and possibly long-term preservation. The certificate suggests it may have been produced during the mid-20th century as part of a series intended for commercial or decorative purposes.

Condition:

  • Canvas: Good condition, with no visible tears or major damage from the provided images. The paint appears intact, showing vibrant colors.
  • Frame: The wooden frame is vintage but shows some wear consistent with age, such as minor chips or scratches.
  • Back of the Painting: The canvas backing shows no immediate signs of mold or damage, although the wiring for hanging may need replacement for safety.

Valuation:

Given its characteristics, the value of this painting is primarily decorative unless further research identifies the artist as significant in the art world. Comparable decorative paintings from Collier Art Corporation or similar artists typically range in value between $150 to $500, depending on the quality, condition, and demand. Its value could increase with further provenance or authentication.

Recommendation for Authenticity and Appraisal:

To accurately determine its authenticity and full value, a professional in-person appraisal is recommended. A certified art appraiser could:

  1. Examine the signature and compare it to known works by "Bonito."
  2. Analyze the materials, style, and certificate to assess its origin and value.
  3. Provide a formal valuation for insurance or sale purposes.

Notes:

  • As this painting is for sale, presenting detailed documentation and authentication will improve its appeal to buyers.
  • Additional provenance, such as the original purchase receipt or historical context about Collier Art Corporation, could enhance its valuation.

This report serves as a preliminary analysis based on visible details and historical context but should not be taken as a definitive appraisal. A professional evaluation is essential for a complete and accurate assessment.
