Maghony Premier Beveled Mirror

By [email protected], 25 January, 2009
Description

HistoryAntique Beveled Premier Mirror The mirror was brought over from England to the United States around the 1860’s or earlier.  George Joseph Marott I was the owner of a very fine shoe store established in 1884, as well as developing an extremely elaborate hotel, “The Marott”, a 2.5 million dollar hotel that displayed the grandeur of a charming lifestyle from 1926 to the mid 1950’s. Mr. Marott’s shoe store and hotel was located in Indianapolis, IN.  The elegant mirror found the perfect show-place in the lobby of THE MAROTT hotel from 1926 to the mid 1950’s.  The Marott Hotel had many distinguished and important guests visit the hotel to only make notice of themselves  in this 9’ exquisite towering beveled mirror. Prominent guests such as Bob Hope, Clark Gable, Milton Berle, Betty Grable and John F. Kennedy stayed at the elegant hotel during its brilliancy. Sir Winston Churchill and his family visited the hotel in 1932.  Even the great depression did not dull the glitter of society at the Marott Hotel. The mirror has imaged some splendorous history.  In 1946, George Joseph Marott passed away leaving this masterpiece to his nephew, George Joseph Marott II.  At the passing of George Joseph II, he left it to his daughter.  The Marott Hotel was voted by the Indiana Historical Society to keep the history standing and remains to be the oldest hotel in Indianapolis, IN.
