This train set is a modern Lionel starter set, probably from the nineties. Believe it or not, they still make these kinds of sets every year, often enough changing only the railroad name on the cars from year to year!
I'm sorry to say that this set is neither rare nor valuable, even in mint condition, simply because it's so common. You can buy a brand new one of slightly nicer quality from Lionel for $200, so this one would probably fetch in the range of $100-150 itself. It's a nice set to run with, but not a spectacular investment.
