Lane has been in production…

Lane has been in production for a great many years, tables like this one tend to date from the 1950's through mid 60's. This particular ebony example generally go for under $75.00 at auction currently, the last one I saw sold went for $45.00.

History & Identification

The Lane Furniture Company was one of the most well-known American furniture makers in the mid-century modern (MCM) era, producing high-quality wooden pieces. The Lane Style #1703 coffee table is a great example of the modernist aesthetic from the 1950s, featuring:
✔ Black lacquered finish
✔ Brass inlays or accents
✔ Tapered metal legs with brass feet

Lane was founded in 1912 in Virginia, initially famous for cedar chests before expanding into mid-century furniture in the 1940s-1960s. Lane’s 1950s coffee tables were highly durable and stylish, making them a staple of American homes.

Current Market Value

Several factors impact the value of your Lane #1703 coffee table:

  • Condition: Good, but signs of wear or refinishing may affect price.
  • Originality: If all parts (legs, finish, and brass accents) are original, value increases.
  • Mid-Century Modern (MCM) Demand: The 1950s Lane pieces are sought after, especially with the MCM resurgence in decor.

Estimated Value (as of today’s market):

  • As-Is (Good Condition): $125 - $200
  • Excellent Condition (Minimal Wear): $200 - $350
  • Fully Restored or Pristine: $350 - $500+

Similar Lane coffee tables have sold for $150-$300 on platforms like eBay, 1stDibs, and Chairish.
