Jennings Brothers Spelter Chalice?? with Cobalt Blue Cup

Profile picture for user christeele
By christeele, 2 January, 2013
Description

I have a chalice that I believe might be a Jennings Brothers Spelter Chalice.  My statement is based on same/similar items that my internet research let me to Etsy, Ebay, like items.  My chalice appears to be missing the round bottom Jennings Bros disk with the JB and serial#.  Here is my Ebay description of my chalice.  This description was done BEFORE I found the Jennings Bros information.  Is it a JB and what would you value it at?  IT IS NOT CURRENTLY POSTED ON EBAY...WAS 2 TIMES EARLIER.  RELEASED WINNING BID AFTER FIRST POSTING AND THE RE-LIST DID NOT SELL.  WANT TO RELIST AGAIN WITH MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION.

Antique Silver Plate Chalice with Cobalt Blue CupThis is such a beautiful religious collectible. You are bidding on an antique silver plated (over bronze I think) chalice with cobalt blue cup. Needs a gentle cleaning which I will leave at the buyer's discretion. There one small ding on the inside rim of the lid but where lid meets cup, It still can be closed fine. Condition shows gentle wear obtained from years of use. Blue cup is in perfect condition. Just needs cleaning.  The maker's mark on this one is a capital "Y" in the center of a flower design that I think dates back to the late 19th century or very early 20th century based on an almost identical letter mark I researched on the internet. The mark is the same as mine except mine has an inner circle between the Y and the outer flower design (see close up picture). Back in 2008, one looking identical (but without a maker's mark) sold on WORTHPOINT for over $70. Along with the maker's mark, there is also a mark on the bottom "Made in Japan".  I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON RELIGIOUS COLLECTIBLES BUT I DO MY BEST TO RESEARCH ITEMS I SELL.
