Re: Glass/crystal swan in silver cherub chariot

Gillander Glassworks created this piece.they originated in Philidelphia in 1861. Some additional info is on the website below.

http://www.gillinderglassstore.com/about-us/

Antique Rare Milk Glass Swan Salt Bowl With Plated Cherub Charriot.  A similar piece sold at auction in October of 2007 for $748 US ... The Estmate at the time was $300 - $400 US back then. Back in time salt dishes were very popular and often adorned tables  .. they were a sign of wealth in social circles. This is a very lovely piece. The stated auction results are on the link below.

Origin: Gillinder Glass Philidalpia USA      Circa: 1870's (Post Civil War)

Est Value: $950 - $1300 US based on market demand. This is a very lovely piece that has withstood the test of time. The providence from your mother adds value to the piece. I would recommend you document it and keep it with the piece. If you could find any old family pictures with it that would add value as well/  For insurance purposes I would insure this piece on your house insurance for $1500 - $1700 US replacement....

Lovely piece of history ... thanks for sharing ... please reply to my valuation with some feedback.

Peace Always

Re: Glass/crystal swan in silver cherub chariot

Thank you so much, this means a lot to me.  I do have the names and photographs of the family members that received this as a wedding gift, then gave it to my mother when she was young.  I received a number of pieces belonging to my mother when she died, and I have been trying to sort out the nic nac things from those of real family value.  This piece will definitely continue to be treasured!
