"Christmas 1914" Box

By MT1989, 23 March, 2009
Description

The item bears a striking similarity to the Princess Mary Christmas Box. However there are several key differences as shown in the picture. The M's are missing from both sides, as is the phrase "Imperium Britanicum" at the top. The spot where the head of Princess Mary should be, instead simply says "1914."

The item didn't cost me that much however I am very curious as to its history since it is so markedly different from the Princess Mary Box.

Re: "Christmas 1914" Box

Electroplated Nickel Silver. Assuming you read up on the original boxes you know they where made of brass. Many did not get sent out because of the war needing the brass so later (1919) more boxes where made of other metals and sent. I don't know if those had her picture or not or if this is one of those. There are 2 brass ones with her picture for sale on ebay at the moment.

Good luck.
