Brass Plate with glass covered lithograph made in England

By appraisals, 17 March, 2009
Description

It's a small brass plate stamped "Made in England, solid brass" on the back with a built-in hanger. There is a lovely picture of a cottage with a woman in front, lithograph maybe? The picture is covered with glass which is held in place by four small tabs.

Re: Brass Plate with glass covered lithograph made in England

I have been researching some of the marks and have recently found a more reliable source for the "made in" markings.

I had thought originally that the single stamp of country name was a WWI standard but have since discovered that:

Stamping the country name (England by itself for example) was mandated in 1820 by President William McKinley by the US Tarrif Act.

This act was amended in 1921 to include the words "Made in".

The use of Limited, ltd. etc came into being in 1861.

So your plate is no older than 1921.

Not much, but a starting point!
