Antique Cranberry Flash Decanter 1930's?

A friend of mine thinks this is flash glass due to the bottom and the top is worn due to use.  He thinks that this once had a glass top.  It could be cranberry flash glass, but it is more pink than that deep red that cranberry has. 

This has a pattern that is similar to the pineapple and fan pattern of carnival, but it's not the right color for carnival and this has 'X's on the pattern.  The neck is not smooth, but is kind of like an octagon.  It has a '4' at the bottom of the container.  It is a beautiful color, like a fushia and has some irredescense to the piece.

  • Can someone confirm/refute what we found?  
  • Is this a decanter that was used for wine or was it specific to pharmcuticals. 
  • Is this a specific pattern for flash glass? 
  • Are we close to the date on this item of 1930's?
  • About what is the value of this item?

History
My husband and I picked this up at a yard sale. The woman that sold it to us said that this was her grandfathers who died 20 years ago when he was in his 90's. He was a pharmacist and used to put cough syrup in this decanter. She said it had a cork in it. So, if the story is true, I am thinking that he started as a pharmacist in the 1930's.
