AeRVoiD Food Carrier

By Russell Frick, 31 May, 2013
Description

While downsizing my grandfather's collection (who recently passed away) I found an antique AerVoiD Food Carrier. It was originally plain stainless steel but was painted blue at some point. My grandfather worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines for a few decades and traveled the world. This is a piece of equipment he took nearly everywhere he went. I've even seen this container in pictures of him in Chile, Mexico, and other parts of Central and South America from the 1940's and on. I've done quite a bit of research but can't find hardly any information on it. Through an email from the current AeRVoiD president I've learned that it's from the 1930's but no other information as the company has changed hands many times and there are no product records. I've seen similar items on Ebay for $200.00+ but my carrier seems to be much older than those. One similar item I've seen on Worthpoint said it was valued at over $1200.00. I've attached a few pictures. Thank you. My questions are this:Approximately what is it worth?Does it being painted affect the value? If so:How much of an impact would it be?Should I try to restore it before selling? What would be the best/safest way to restore it? The text on the label reads as follows: AerVoiDFood Carrier No. 200Keeps Contents Hot or ColdNon Toxic Inner Shell - Type BCSerial No. 2166Vacuumized and Sealed Under Processes UsedExclusively ByVacuum Can Co.Chicago, U.S.A.
