1980 German Army Medal

Description

This is a brass (?) medal in decent quality, with some of the most noticeable flaws in the blue ribbon that is slightly worn, and the label which has small dents around the edges. The clasp on the back of the label is fully functional and intact. The label reads "3.Int. Volkswandern Niedershausen 1980". The word on the medal itself reads "Heiligenhauschen". The entire piece is about 5 inches in length. 

I was unable to find an accurate translation of the phrases, which means I can not find why the owner of this medal received it. I would appreciate any information related to this, and if possible, a general price range for an item like this.

A younger couple sold this to me along with a massive amount of other antique army pins and medals. It can be assumed that the items were left behind by an older family member of theirs who served in the army.

Heiligenhauschen is located in Northern Germany while Niedershausen is further south near Frankfurt. If you look on  map you will notice that these 2 places run along the same path as the Berlin Wall. The "fourth-generation Wall", known officially as "Stützwandelement UL 12.11 Was completed in 1980 .. In 1989 the boarder was removed by Germany and the wall tore down by 1990 -1992

I believe this was a commemorative walk that was attended by people from all over the world to reconnect East and West Germany. Thus the house and tree ... Reconnection of families divided in Germany.

This is not a Millitary Medal ... this is a commemorative regarding people coming together to walk for reunification of East and West Germany. The pin indicates not very high quality and mass produced by my experience.

Although this does not have a lot of monetary value ... this piece has some true historical significance.  Not sure if you are into Pink Floyd The Wall..But the concert they did in Berlin 1990 sure was a powerful one ... Rocking history for sure !!

I would value this medal from $5 - $15 US based on market sold and demand as I am unsure how many were produced.

Very interesting! I appreciate your input (and corrections) on the information behind this piece. Now that I think about it, I remember hearing about Niedershausen during my stay in Frankfurt. And coincidentally enough, in the same trip I had gone through Pompeii and visited the amphitheatre where Pink Floyd performed "Echoes". Glad that you included that fact. Thank you for the help!

You are most welcome .... it is a very interesting piece and journey back in time to figure it out ... a definate conversation piece ... I never saw Pink Floyd live ... I saw Brit Floyd live  ... but their music has inspired me immensely during certain times in my life and will continue to do so.  Peace and Blessings Always TJG
