Description

1925-1926 Buescher True Tone High Pitch Soprano Saxophone. This is a vintage instrument with a lot of character!

I've had someone who knows how to play a little test it out, and sound does come out. It looks to be intact and in good shape for its age. Please review the high-quality photos for a detailed look.

1925-1926 Buescher True Tone High Pitch Soprano Saxophone

Item Description:

This is a Buescher True Tone soprano saxophone, manufactured between 1925-1926. The saxophone features a silver-plated body, keywork, and an engraved "True-Tone" brand stamp. It includes the original case, which is lined with purple velvet, and an antique lyre music holder. The saxophone appears to be in good condition for its age, showing signs of use and patina.

Historical Context:

  • The Buescher Band Instrument Company, founded in 1894 in Elkhart, Indiana, was one of the most respected saxophone manufacturers of the early 20th century.
  • The True Tone series was introduced in the 1910s and continued through the 1920s, widely regarded for its warm tone and craftsmanship.
  • This particular saxophone is marked as "Low Pitch", indicating it was designed for modern A=440 tuning standards, unlike high-pitch models, which are not compatible with contemporary instruments.
  • The serial number (if visible) can help confirm the exact year of production.

Condition Assessment:

  • Exterior: Shows age-related wear, tarnish, and patina but appears structurally sound.
  • Keywork & Pads: May require adjustment or pad replacement for optimal playability.
  • Sound Production: The saxophone produces sound, suggesting that it is at least partially functional.
  • Original Case & Accessories: The presence of the original case and lyre music holder adds value.

Estimated Value:

Pricing for vintage Buescher soprano saxophones depends on condition, originality, and playability. Comparable models in the market range as follows:

  • Excellent, fully restored & playable condition: $1,800 - $3,000+
  • Good condition, minimal repairs needed: $1,200 - $1,800
  • Needs restoration but structurally intact: $600 - $1,200
  • Non-playable, for parts or display: $300 - $600

Estimated value for this saxophone: $800 - $1,500, depending on necessary repairs and market demand.

Recommendations for Professional Appraisal:

  • A vintage instrument specialist or technician should assess its playability, key action, and pad condition.
  • Serial number verification could confirm the exact production year.
  • If planning to sell, consider listing on:
    • eBay, Reverb.com, Saxophone.org, or vintage instrument dealers.
    • Auction houses specializing in musical instruments for higher-end collectors.

Conclusion:

This 1925-1926 Buescher True Tone Soprano Saxophone is a collectible vintage instrument. If fully restored, it could fetch up to $2,500 in today's market. If left in as-is condition, its estimated value is between $800 - $1,500. A professional cleaning and servicing would enhance its marketability.
